The Pilbara heat, sun and salt were not kind to this poor transformer. During a routine maintenance job we noticed that this transformer was in a dire condition. PD degradation on the HV cables and rusting on the high voltage termination box had pushed this transformer to the brink of failure. In the shutdown timeframe; HVR sourced a new HV termination kit and re-terminated the cable. Removed the termination box for painting before reinstalling as an interim fix. We then got to work sourcing a a new transformer.
During the next available window, we returned to site and installed the new transformer for our customer.
